Change My Mind?

P-A-T-H-E-T-I-C

That is the one word that comes to mind with Miami's performance today against the Browns. They were on their 3rd and 4th string QBs, without their top WR, without their top pro bowl corner, need I go on?

Last week, the shitty performance was chalked up to, "Belichick is just a great coach" when we lost to an injury/suspension decimated Patriots team.

Except this one is a lot different. We were at home. We had to pray to baby Jesus for a THIRD missed FG from Cleveland to not be embarrassed by a loss to probably the worst team in the NFL, even when healthy, which the Browns were not even close to.

The Dolphins were also out coached. Badly. How is it that you cannot figure out how to stop one player? Terrelle Pryor toasted us, at nearly every possible position. What the hell Miami? Make a damn adjustment for pete's sake! Pryor had like 200 all purpose yards!

"We start slow"

"We have too many 3 and outs"

"We don't get stops when it counts"

"We are right there. We just need to execute"

All excuses that have come out of the Dolphins players mouth so far in this young season. Who gives a damn? You guys started slow today again, had too many 3 and outs, didn't get stops when you should have and if Cleveland had their starting kicker in the game you would have lost again!

Everyone was quick to hand out a "moral victory" after playing Seattle tough in the opener. If there are such things as "moral victories", then please tell me what this one is?

We should be proud of nothing.

Wanna change my mind Miami?

Beat the Bengals on Thursday. Show me that these are just growing pains of a young team and an inexperienced coaching staff. Let me know we are headed in the right direction. Don't give me a reason to start hoping we are shitty enough to have a top 5 pick in the draft.

BEAT. THE. BENGALS.

This is not going to go away until the 3 and Outs master; TANNEHILL; is no longer under center. It is just that simple. No changes has made a difference and no additions has made a difference because the common denominator is still in place; TANNEHILL. You can say what you want to say and do what you will; but no difference in the dolphins play will materialize until ryan tannehill is no longer under center!

yeah!!!!# tannehill is only pff's 10th rated qb!!! so what if we have the 31rst ranked run defense and rushing offense and overall 27th defense!## won't stop losing until our 10th rated qb is on the bench!!!!

we all need to hit the panic button after a win!!!!! its the nfl guys any givin sunday we outplayed Seattle on the road and lost and got outplayed by Cleveland and lost it happens. yes new England beat us with what they had but guess what they did to the 2-0 texans??? didnt get past midfield till the 4th quarter and how many Houston fans called for osweilers head?? long season, new coach, young team. take a sec and enjoy the win

and won against Cleveland obviously

Three things, 1 contain.....we can't do it, or we can, but its not being coached. 2 Linebackers....do we have any? Kiko is slow to the flow, and soft when he gets there. 3, Receivers dogging routes , and Tannyhill not feeling the rush .

@ Jason:

You are delusional sir. I never said anything about Tannehill. The Whole team sucks.

avatar

David, you are a football illiterate. Tannehill is not the problem. Open your eyes.

avatar

@ Kelly:

Don't waste your time talking to David Apollos. He had been on that Tannehill Jibberish for years. It isn't going to stop. Best thing is just to ignore him

Each of these were descriptions of Philbin's Dolphins. Philbin inherited a team that had a good defense (with a Top 5 Rushing Defense) and an offense that needed better talent at QB, #1 WR, and a seam-threat TE. Their defense kept them in games, but the offense just didn't have the talent and usually settled for FGs instead of TDs.

Philbin took this team and ruined it. Coyle neutered the defense with his scheme change and Philbin made it worse by getting rid of talented players on both sides of the ball. The Rushing Defense dropped in the rankings each year, the secondary went downhill, and the LB corps went into the toilet. Half-decent o-linemen were replaced with guys who Philbin wanted to run his blocking schemes, and the result was four years of allowing the most sacks in the league and pathetic run-blocking.

Nothing that Philbin did worked, so logic dictates that the team should revert to a more physical style of football that they had prior to Philbin changing everything. But, this will not be done because Gase also wants to run a dink-and-dunk offense with short passes mostly replacing the run (although to his credit he will throw downfield more than Philbin/Lazor did). Gase is an inexperienced Head Coach who hired an inexperienced Defensive Coordinator. Tannenbaum needed as many talented players as possible in the draft (to replace Philbin's bums), yet he traded up twice to select players at positions that really weren't needed. By doing so, he ended up with no picks in the 4th and 5th rounds (a lot of NFL starters were drafted in these rounds) and I believe he even traded away some of next year's picks. The new regime is continuing in the footsteps of the old regime; the offense can't run, the defense can't stop the run, and the Front Office is doing their best to NOT put enough talent on the field.

Today they BARELY beat Cleveland. They should have lost that game. I had to suffer through the Philbin years, and now it looks like I'll have to suffer again until Ross wises up and gets a new Front Office and a coaching staff that knows what they're doing and realize the importance of an effective running game (which includes a capable o-line).

was referring to davids response not to what you said

avatar

Man, law, I know but it's so old listening to it all the time.

avatar

i want to see a game where the other team cant stop our running back for a change, and when they run the ball their guy is met in the backfield half the time

The first time in my life that i was actually mad we won....i was laughing when the browns missed the fg after tannehill fumbled, I couldn't believe how bad the browns were and the fact that we couldn't put them away was quite amusing.

:) Calm the ---- down! Yes, we played badly. EVERYONE on the team, except the punter could have played better. No Doubt. The defense was Booed - that was embarrassing to say the least. BUT, we won. AND, don't discount the fact that we could go up to Cincinnati and probably play pretty well. We do these things. We may put 28 on those guys and win. You just never know... Then, a week later, we could get shut out by the Titans. It's football. Did I want to vomit near the end of the game, hell yes I did.

Go back and look at the play of Jenkins specifically - it was pitiful. When we draft LBs and CBs next year, I believe we will be more like the team Gase envisions. Also, by then, the offense will have played a full year together. They will be "crisper," dangerous even.

Everybody needs to chill and be patient. Rome wasn't built in a day. The problems they are having is primarily due to not executing the plays the way the coaches have instructed them. They just learned a whole new scheme on both sides of the ball and the coaches are still learning about their team. These things take time. Plus they do need some better talent on the team. This is a rebuilding year. No one is expecting a playoff team. I would be thrilled if we got 9 wins. And remember these younger players are growing to be better next year.

avatar

Tannehill is rated in the bottom third of the stats rankings every year. Better still to assess just use your eyes. 4 3 and outs in a row in the 4th qtr then he fimbles the game away. The guy is truly awful but nowhere near as bad as the fans who love him.

avatar

Ha ha you are comparing this franchise to Rome. ...... we can't even build a sand castle under this regime. Patience for another 15 years since our last playoff win. Sorry for the willingness to want to win this century.

Couldn't have said it better myself...this organization is utterly pathetic right now...most fans search for light at the end of the tunnel...unfortunately for us Dolphin fans, our team can't even find the tunnel...!!!

When you have from Day One the worst owner in the NFL who, in my opinion, based on his decisions and utterances, is suffering from dementia or worse (Pat Bowlen had the dignity to step down from Denver)-- and who, like the detestable Huizenga, bought the team as a rich man's plaything, not to restore it to past glories -- voila, you have the same old Dolphins, year after year. Like Ross, only getting worse. The fraud Parcells, Sporano (unbelievable), Ireland (a bad, dishonest creep -- witness his and Ross' -- by allowing it -- unspeakably low public humiliation/trading of Vontee Davis on HARD KNOCKS -- and none in the toady Miami press or public said a word, Philbin -- the GB OC who carried McCarthy's clipboard and never called a play -- correctly described by my son as looking like a high school gym teacher which of course he was as Miami coach. And Tannenbaum -- fired after arguably the worst draft in Jets history, jobless for 4 years until raised from the garbage heap by Ross who (doubtless w/ advice from wise Grandma Parcells) elevated him to head Operations. With Grier the genius trio apparently forgot to look at the front seven which can't tackle, can't rush, can't seal the flanks, can't cover and boasts a single dominant player (Suh). I except Wake for injury reasons. Mario Williams? Yeah, right. Jordan Phillips (2nd Round)? The glamour pick Gase looks overmatched with the standard Miami bad OL/bad DL/bad LBs and outcoached by everyone else. And his play-calling stinks. As ever, Tannehill is the whipping boy for a bad OL, receiver drops, penalties and bizarre play-calling. Why can't the toady Miami press and blind fans see the forest, not the trees?

avatar

Been a Dolphins die-hard for over 30 years and never felt worse about a win than I did yesterday. While I'm grateful for the win I'm embarrassed by the way we got it. We're still that team that plays to the level of our opponent. To say Gase is experiencing grown pains as a first time HC is the understatement of the year. But at the end of the day, if we find some way to beat CIN on the road on Thursday night then we're 2-2 and right in the middle of the pack in the AFC.

avatar

don't love him but not gonna blame him, watch tbose 3 and outs again, landry dropped a 3rd down pass, drake fot stuffed on a 3rd and short and he got blind sided cuz james got beat so vad he got benched

avatar

I'm shocked at how quick you so-called fans are to jump to conclusions and dump on the team or a player. Most of you don't have a clue of all the little details that go into to playing football at the pro level. It's the small details that are costing us and killing our opportunities on both sides of the ball. Even Gase sees this and talks about it. It takes time for a team with a new coach and new schemes to get everything on the same page and gel as a team. Heck the coaches are still figuring out what the players are best at. Everyone should have known this was a rebuilding year and that this is not a playoff team yet. I'm so sick of people wanting to scrap it all when it's just beginning. Seriously, is anyone here an adult with any kind of patience? Teams with new coaches generally don't gel until at least 6 or 7 games into the season. Y'all just need to allow some time before have your knee jerk reactions. Go take a tranquilizer.

exactly!! more people complaining about winning than our losses
