Give Gase this Season/Let Him REBUILD (not "re-tool") in the Offseason.

I was so furious over the pathetic joke of a football team that I soiled my eyeballs watching on Thursday night, that I practically crawled into a hole over the weekend and paid the sport of football no mind. I didn't even check my fantasy scores. I just didn't care. This team has sucked all my enthusiasm for the sport dry. I've had to think about it for a few days. Had to watch the game again and analyze it and I have to say, it doesn't get any prettier watching it a second time.

Who's to blame? Ryan Tannehill? Yep. That strip fumble was inexcusable. He had 4 seconds to either throw to a receiver, throw it away, or take off with it. For God's sake WHERE IS THE POCKET PRESENCE? If he had just taken ONE STEP forward, he would've probably gotten another half second. Not all of the sacks were his fault but this was the worst of the 5 and it DAMN SURE WAS 100% his fault. In this league, you can't ask for any longer than the O-line gave him on that play.

Who's to blame? Terrence Fede? Yep. Running into the punter a full second after the ball was in the air? FIRED. Period. CUT. Period. That is too stupid a mistake for words. In fact, if you take every stupid thing that every other player on the team did, it all MIGHT barely equal this monumentally idiotic mistake. I don't even know what Terrence Fede's salary is, but for this game, it SHOULD be $0.00. Tired of guys not earning their paychecks.

Who's to blame? Tony Lippett? Yep. He looked like a damn stuffed animal trying to tackle a tank on A.J. Green's TD catch. I don't care if you're the worst CB in the NFL, you're still a professional CB and basic open-field tackling is about as basic as it gets. It literally looked like his arms just flat-out didn't work...like he didn't have bones or something. I'm not even sure Green felt it.

Who's to blame? The O-line? Yep. Not all the sacks were RT's fault. This is getting old now. Learn how to block. I'm sick of watching an O-line that can't block for the run OR the pass. Get SOMETHING right. I don't care if you have injuries on the line. You're all pros. Act like it or go work at McDonalds. It's BS that they make millions doing something that they apparently can't do any better than I could and I'm sitting here making a fraction of what they do. Tell you what Mr. Ross, hire me to play ANY position you want and I'll play for $200k/year with no bonuses. It'll be a huge raise for me, huge savings for you, and I'll play just as well as whoever it is you're overpaying now. Everyone wins.

Basically, blame just about everyone on the offense. Because even when RT is playing well, Kenny Stills is dropping TD passes that a baby with no arms could catch with its feet. Even when RT is playing well, the O-line is getting him killed. Even when RT is playing well, the RBs can't get more than a yard or two. And when the other guys ARE playing well, RT is playing like a rookie....not a rookie QB either....like....If you took a rookie SOCCER player or BASEBALL player and threw him into the QB position...That's how RT looked at times in this game....In his fifth year.

FIFTH. YEAR.

I get that he is going to have a hard time learning ANOTHER new offense. I get the other "reasons" for his issues, but standing there like a scared baby deer in your own redzone is unacceptable for a 5th year QB. Now, a lot of you on here know that I have had as much hope and faith in RT as anyone, and I still say let's give Gase the year with him and see what happens. But you're delusional if you think RT is the answer if he continues making bone-headed mistakes like this. However, you're equally delusional if you think ANY QB CHANGE IN THE UNIVERSE is going to even so much as get us in the playoffs the way this team is playing.

Gase says pocket presence is coachable. I'll give him the benefit of a doubt on this. We'll see. I know some of you jaded fans are going to tell me he's full of it. I'll nip that in the bud now by saying this: He knows more than you do and that's why he's the HC and you're sitting here typing on a blog...just like me. So save it.

You could take the DNA of Marino, Unitas, Montana, Brees, Rodgers, the whole Manning family, and Brady, genetically engineer the GOD of all QBs in a test tube, and that super-human QB would take this train-wreck of a team to an 8-8 record. If you believe other-wise, sorry to say, your public school system failed you miserably. Sorry not sorry.

Now.....who's NOT to blame.

Well, contrary to popular belief, it is NOT the overall defense. The defensive issues stem from the fact that they are on the field ALL. GAME. LONG because the offense can't stay on the field and all they do is go 3 and out. The time of possession is astoundingly lopsided. So it aint the defense.

It's not the coaching either. If there is any member of this organization that I am solidly behind right now, it's not RT, it's not Wake, not Suh, not Landry, not Ross, and DAMN SURE not Mike Tannenbaum. It's Adam Gase. I like his attitude. "We're beyond the point of discussion. Do you job or we will make changes. Talent is irrelavent." I LOVE that. And I love the fact that he was true to his word and benched Maxwell, who, so far has been a waste of salary cap. He doesn't manage "personalities" like Philbin did. He manages TALENT, and that's what we need.

I'm telling you, give Gase time to rebuild this team that he inherited from Philbin. Give him time to figure out what he has and doesn't have on this team. Don't build the team around Tannehill or Suh. Build it around the COACH. If Ross will do that, things will change. Let Gase decide this offseason who the QB will be next year. If it's RT, it'll be because Gase fixed him. If not, so be it, but I believe Gase will know and he will make a winning decision as far as who stays and who goes.

I know we're all sick of being patient, but get over it, crybabies. Some of the "fans" are more annoying than the team itself and that is staying A LOT. If you expected playoffs this year, you were out of your mind to begin with and there is no psychiatrist or drug on the planet that can help you. I came into this year saying that 8-8 would be a thrilling improvement over last season. Now I'm saying I will literally sh*t a chicken if we can go 8-8. It'll be a miracle if we don't actually do WORSE than last season.

Buckle up. It's going to be a long season, so just accept it. Expect the worst and hope for....better.

Hahahahahahahahahaha Jeremyandjessica!!!

All I wanted was them to compete, looks like my hopes for the. Are down the drain so far.

It was truly sad to watch Paxton Lynch yesterday get forces into action because of injury and play admirably. His pocket presence was amazing for a rookie in his first ever game action. Makes RT look like a fool.

Nice post! Hopefully this team pulls its head out of their rear end and starts competing. I for one am turning my focus to my fantasy team. This team sucked the enthusiasm right out of me, AGAIN....

I agree with this, though ill say Adam Gase NEEDS to do a better job in calling plays and running this offense. This is HIS offense, the 3rd down play calling is atrocious!!! he calls plays over and over again that do not reach the sticks or yet, come even close to reaching them. RT at times isn't to blame I saw film of the whole field on all the third downs and receivers are covered, I will say this though he NEEDS to be aware in that pocket like you said, it's ridiculous. Without a solid run game youre going to get nowhere and be pass happy. Lets face it RT is no eltie QB, he will never be. He is an Alex Smith type with an upside. its year 5, we need to stop wishing he can take the game in his hands. It's not going to happen. Gase NEEDS to cut this 4 back committee when it comes to the run game. PICK 1 or 2 and roll with it for Christ sake. They need Rhythm, and how about we cut the screens to 14 out, I think teams know that is what RT loves and it never works out. The Bengals took 14 out of the game and Tannehill had NO idea what to do.

Jeremy and Jessica:

Really, i agreed with most of what you are saying, but when you start blaming the fans for being pissed off and being "crybabies" is where the wheels fell off the car. I've been a Dolphins fan since 1972 and the last 15 years or so has been miserable. Telling fans to be patient is ridiculous, anyone left who is still a Dolphins fan deserves major accolades for sticking it out. This team has been flat out ****ing terrible for longer than i can possibly remember, and this looks to be another 1-15 year with a QB who can't read defenses, can't feel pressure in the pocket, can't throw accurately to wide open receivers, can't make it through his progressions, can't direct an offense, can't mount a game winning drive, can't complete a pass in the 4th quarter of games, and can't get the Dolphins to a winning record. Be patient, really?

Gary Grimes,

I hear you, I've only been a fan since 1994, but that might be worse, because since I was a kid, all I can remember is being disappointed by this team. Even when we had Marino, we never got a SB.

That being said, expecting a miracle (anything better than 8-8) with a new HC, a horribly mismanaged salary cap, a ton of injuries, and a QB learning ANOTHING offense, is unrealistic.

You can sh*t in one hand and wish in the other....let me know which hand fills up faster.

And also, for the record, I totally agree that any fans who have stuck it out this long DO deserve respect. I'm only saying that some fans are being unrealistic expecting playoffs this season and then getting mad when we lose. Did anyone REALLY not expect us to be 1-3 at this point with the schedule they gave us?

Now, to piggy-back off of what Lawrence said, yes, while I did expect a 1-3 start, I also expected us to be more competitive than we have been the last two weeks. I'm fine with the way Seattle and even New England (mostly) went down, but I expected to easily beat the Browns an be neck and neck with Cinci.

So, yeah, I'm disappointed but...surprised? Hell no...

Nobody should be shocked with how the Phins have performed. Last years team lacked talent and this years team still does. In fact the Dolphins have lacked talent for 20+ years. As Gary Stevens said, "You can't make chicken salad out of chicken ****" In my opinion we need to fire all scouts and talent personnel executives as they completely suck. Successful teams find players. We find garbage.

Don't let Gase off the hook...he is sounding more and more like Philbin every time he speaks...The excuses are already flowing like a river from his mouth...Jones and Suh are the only guys on this team doing their jobs right now...that's a fact...!I've been a fan for 48 years now and I'm disgusted with how pathetic this organization is right now...

Here's the only problem I have with Gase...YOU CAN'T BENCH EVERYONE....why isn't Fede benched? Why isn't Tannehill benched? Why isn't Lippet benched? Seriously....just bench everyone and put 8 guys on the field...I don't mind the benching but when you bench Maxwell and his replacement plays as badly as him but doesn't get benched and Maxwell starting next week after the bad play it looks silly...and fede? He should be benched if that's what Gase is doing...seriously...how fede is not benched this week is mind blowing...you suck Gase...turn it around already and get your head out of your a$$

Jason Fusco,
Gase is our only hope. This team lacks talent. Other teams see a handful of talented players on this roster. The rest need to go or be backups. I like others was hoping for 8-8. They had a ridiculous first four games. Three on the road, to playoff opponents. The last one on a short week. We still aren't good, and we need to see if Tannehill can turn into a serviceable QB. Give Gase this year with him. This home stand should show some team improvement. Because we don't have a shot at the playoffs, I say go with Ajayi and Drake. Let's see them develop. Foster is NOT the future. Hopefully our Oline can stay healthy and develop continuity. The run game is slowly showing improvement. Let it explode by letting two run the show, and not all four (Gase should know better than that). I think by letting Lippett play you can see if he can develop into a good corner. Maxwell is gone at the end of this year. There are just too many holes to fill year one. I think they should have gone defense after the Tunsil pick, but year 2 draft will be that for sure. Year three under Gase should yield a very good team, is my hope and dream.

If there is one thing the start of this season has taught me is how many fans actually thought we'd go 2-2 or 3-1 to start the season. We are exactly where I thought we would be 1-3. The only problem is that I did not envision such as poor 1-3 team. I always thought this was a 5-11 team, and I still think they are. But this upcoming 44-day homestand will go a long way to whether they can beat or even match that prediction. Here's another thought - if they go 1-4 again, that might be all the wins we see for the rest of the season. And as fans, we should expect full-blown eval-mode of the entire roster, beginning with Thill (meaning, bench him and put in Moore or the 3rd stringer...)

Tannehill has to go. I have been patient for long enough. The guy is smart. But he clearly lacks the pocket cleverness which is essential to being a successful pocket passer. I know I'm just a fan. But if Gase doesn't recognize this, then I have to question that. Please. Get this guy outta the pocket. Gotta be more creative with this qb. Please, get this guy moving!
