Bosa Holdout Can Help the Dolphins

So the Chargers can't sign Joey Bosa.  The Dolphins were in a similar spot with his old man a generation ago, but what concerns me is less apples falling near trees, and more squirrels finding nuts.  Specifically:  This is a huge opportunity for the Dolphins, but not in the manner one might think.
I'm not advocating that we try to trade for Bosa.  First, the Dolphins don't need another highly paid defensive lineman.  We have too much money invested in the position to brook another signing.  Even if we did want Bosa, he can't move until draft day 2017.
No, the move here is to capitalize on our being long on DE's.  The Chargers, who are desperate to win the west in the face of stadium/relocation pressures, are now short a major piece.  So it's time for Miami to make a forward-looking deal and trade a DE for picks.
We are likely to cut either Fede or McCain and certain to cut Dion Jordan (see my earlier piece here.)  Why not see if San Diego will part with a pick in next year's very deep and talented draft?
We need to turn their desperation into a chance to draft a useful linebacker or corner next year.  It's time to profit off of another team's need before roster cuts force our hand.

There is little doubt the Miami front office is shopping some of our D-Line players. Good points, but I believe we have been shopping players since before the beginning of training camp.

What makes you think that the 'fins are "certain to cut Dion Jordan?"
Is that just speculation on your part, or have your heard something?

I doubt Jay has heard anything, but I agree. It is unlikely we keep him on the active roster. The PUP maybe... but at some point that very ignorant albeit pretty good athlete dead weight will either be moved for a 6th or 7th round draft pick or cut outright. It is logical. Unless by some miracle he steps on the practice field and begins to dominste. That would be welcomed, but is highly doubtful.

I like Fede , Mario Williams looks like an absolute stiff thus far. It's early, and preseason. But I think you promote from within. I think Fede has earned it.

I don't have any rumor, only that Joseph could have slotted him at LB instead of DE if he wanted to keep him. I agree with Madphins on the shopping- we just now have a very motivated potential partner.

Kelly- I agree about Fede deserving more of a go right now than Williams. I hope it's just a matter of a devorated veteran not getting up for preseason.

San Diego may bite on a trade. Then again they may wait out the waiver wire.

Good post Jay.

Mario Williams may be too long in the tooth. Or maybe he is just working out some kinks before he finally goes full tilt in the season. He has got to know his body and what it will take to play in 16 games.

That's our best hope where Williams is concerned, Carl. I hope that's the explanation for a lackluster start.

Dion Jordan doesn't deserve to be on this team, he has proven that. He barely deserves to work at a Taco Bell. He is a prime example why the NFL doesn't do guaranteed contracts like baseball.

I just hope we get something for him, Kelly.
