Why Omar Kelly is full of it.

Having met Omar Kelly a few times, the last time in New Orleans at the airport, I want you to understand I like the guy.  He is very personable.    However, his reads on players is simply amateurish at best.   Remember how upset Mr  Kelly was over the conditional trade of pass rush specialist, Chris McCain?    The Saints desperately needed help on Defense, a DE pass rusher specifically.    Omar went on and on about how great McCain was, as he felt the Dolphins made a huge mistake in trading a bona-fide pass rusher.   The problem with Chris is that he can't set the edge on run plays, and EVERYONE knows it.  He is a liability against the run.

Well the Saints cut him today.    Great read Omar.  Hey Omar.  Remember Paul Soliai?

Id hardly describe myself as an Omar Kelly fan, but from what I read of his comments regarding the trade of McCain, he seemed in favor of the move, that McCain would be cut so it would be smart to get something for him. While I have seen him speak on behalf of McCains athleticism, I have also seen him rip McCain for never progressing and losing the starting job at LB when they tried that experiment. First career game as a pro and a blocked punt and sack on Brady, I also had high expectations for McCain, but seems like one of those guys that just doesn't have a position.

The only thing Omar knows, for sure, is that the song, 'This Is How We Do It', is overplayed.

avatar

His personable demeanor got him the gig not his knowledge.

avatar

Omar is thug lite. I never read his drivel and neither should you ;)

We just lost a 7th round pick.

O.K.'s job is to sell newspapers ( a media on death watch) an to that end he take the easy rout and creates controversy rather than report the story. His condescending tone on the videos he shoots is a total turn off and I just look to other writers to get a more genuine accounting of what happened... Ed Pope where are you!!!

Omar Kelly is a disgusting liberal radical, anyone who would support the terrorist blm movement, and kapernick is a waste of oxygen. Carl, how did we lose a pick? Did he fail the physical? If not , we lost nothing.

avatar

WAYYY liberal and non realistic about politcs. That being said, he was pretty spot on about McCain. If he wasnt a one trick pony he would have made the team. Regardless how you feel about Omar, he does tell you what he sees. I have met him and had a beer with him. He comes from a different background than me. I am very against more Obama. He is a nice guy but it is getting harder for me to be nice to people that support the further seperation of this great country.

avatar

Ummm, we lost the pick we would have gained. We lost nothing except a guy who was not going to make the team anyways. We lost nothing until he gets picked up by New England and kicks our ass. You guys should know how this shit works by now.

avatar

If you want to feel bad about our dolphins just read a piece from Omar.

Omar Kelly is a self proclaimed "expert" on football. In reality, he talks down to people to hide his deficiencies in knowledge of the game. His "check my timeline" when someone asks a question is irritating as he expects people to follow his b.s. If one should disagree with him he will often threaten to ban you from commenting.

avatar

Shane....if McCain made the roster we would have gotten a seventh round pick in the trade. Since he got cut, we don't get the draft pick. My math tells me we lost a pick.

avatar

I stand corrected, didn't realize the guy had to make the roster. Seems like a shady trade to me.

avatar

Shane, before he said he was happy for Chris, he said he questioned a front office that gets rid of a pass rusher. "There's not that many of those dudes around." He never once mentioned that McCain is the worst run stopper on the team or that he had real trouble evading down field blocks. Watch Misi. He is under sized and still gets off Oline blocks well. If he could have at least set the edge a little... as bad as New Orleans is on defense, they quickly saw what we and the Dolphins front office and coaching staff saw. He can't cut it. Omar likes a guy and thinks he can play. Look, he is friends with Miko Grimes. Need I say more? KIKO IS THE BIGGEST IDIOT/RACIST I HAVE EVER LISTENED OR READ. As a brown person, she is offensive. Hell, she is offensive if I were white, black, asian, Eskimo, or Martian. And, Omar defends her. It says something about his ability to evaluate.

avatar

Carl, you are right. I had hoped he would make the team, so we would get that pick. It would have been an early 7th also as New Orleans will probably win no more than 5 or 6 games.

I am not an Omar fan but I think your thoughts on McCain are unfair. He is very athletic but as been bounced around and not given the opportunity to progress in one position as most rookies are given. Therefore, while he has been with the Phins 2 years he only worked as a passrusher halfway through last season. He will develop when given a fair opportunity. Furthermore, when you have a day or two to learn you have been traded, and then get ready for a bew defense, you will not be at your best for the few snaps (he) received on the final game. All the rest of the players knew the scheme, and had been practicing together since OTA's. McCain did not get a fair shot there. So you are free to have an opinion, but be fair about it. I think Chris will go somewhere, and do well.

Omar Kelly Sucks! I cannot stand the guy. His reporting (if you want to call it that) is terrible. He always integrates politics and religion into his twitter feeds. If you challenge anything that he says he blocks you! He degrades people and constantly disrespects his wife inside of the innuendos of some of his tweets. Read real journalists. He's not one!

avatar

Say what you want about Omar, he's pretty much pegged the Dolphins for what the are for the last 5 years or so. A miss on a player is nothing that would be unexpected from anyone. MCCain, during his tenure was often the best player to be on the field. Most often times he wasn't.

avatar

Unknown, I have been nothing but fair to Omar. He is a poor evaluator of talent. He wanted to cut Paul Soliai, when Paul was young. He blocked me on twitter, when I told him he was wrong. McCain has had 3 years to make the rotation, with 2 coaching staffs, and now a third in NO. I'm sorry people. I'm 50 years old, and I know I can stop the run better than he can. It helps that I am a 272 pound fireplug. But, in this division, Bill will run at McCain every down he is in there. Just like he did to Dion Jordan, who has shown he can't set the edge either. So, unless we have a 3 score lead, those guys are liabilities to b the defense.

JavanaB, the Dolphins have been more than fair to McCain.

Will Cronan, Omar is a cancer. He simply trash talks them. Many others have criticized the Dolphins, without being a jerk about it. Even though Big O actually loves the Dolphins, he is another jerk... so is Perkins. Armando does a better job even when he is critical. And, maybe after a few years of covering a losing team, it sours your approach. I don't know. I just know. I will call them out because we need a new model of reporting.

avatar

The Madfins fan,
While I agree with you on everything else, I still disagree with McCain getting a fair shot. That being said I am not blaming the Dolphins for that I simply think that with his constant changing of positions he has not gotten the chance to develop in that position. Especially as we has such depth and great playmakers there. I also think the Dolphins see the value in him, which is why they tried to go out of their way to find a team for him and gain a pick. McCain earned that. I won't ever change my stance on McCain, I think we will see him go somewhere and do very well. Now, as far as the other nonsense that comes out of Omar's mouth I agree with you 100%! He is a negative person who is often incorrect about talent.

avatar

JavanaB, he was a great special teams player, I agree. And, when we have a huge lead - he could pin his ears backand do some things. He is just bad against the run, which was his downfall with this team. Unless he is taught to stop the run and get off blocks, he will not fair any better. He could learn. I find it hard to believe that Gase and company would let real talent get away. Kim Bokamper didn't think he could be taught. I trust Kimbo.

avatar

Well, I simply disagree with you on Omar. I have no dog in the fight in the sense that I know Omar because I don't. What I've come to know about him is that he has time and time again encourage phin fans to take off the blinders and see the reality of what's on the field. He's a reporter who if he's doing his job right is pointing out the weaknesses of the team and management. He will point out the positives as well. Problem is there have been so few positives, so few bright spots that the sense is everything he says is negative. Do you think that if the Dolphins won each week like the patriots that he would be reporting the negatives? His common phrase to Dolphin fans had been "expect more, don't settle". Don't by the BS the team tries to sell you every season only to end up 7-9 again. Demand from the ownership, coaches and players thier best! Start winning so there is something positive to report. I won't criticize anyone who sets expectation levels high and points it out when the team does not do it. If you like the mediocre state of Dolphin football then you right, Omar is not your guy.

avatar

Will, do you work for the Sun Sentinel? The fan attitude in South Florida has become toxic. The way Omar talks about my team, heck, I'm surprised anyone who listens to him goes to any games. He is one of the reasons for the aura of negativity. I don't mind well-crafted realistic critiques. However, he attacks players when everyone knows coaching has been the problem for most of this down period for the Dolphins. Perkins does it too. Chris is fond of saying the Miami Dolphins just don't have enough talent. What a crock. Bill Belichick could win with our team. I'm certain. I suggest that coaching is the difference. And, now we have it. So, attacking player weaknesses is a waste of time and energy. It also sours the fan base for no reason. I believe my Dolphins will win at least 10 games. See? Upbeat and positive. Omar please learn this technique.

So what you really want is to have BS blown up your butt every year as long as it's portrayed in a positive light. Based upon what you have seen from the Dolphins, what has there been to be optimistic about. I've followed this team since the 70's and since Marino retired they have been crap. So sorry if I'm a little sick of it. I just rather have the truth than some Pollyanna "this-is-the-year" puff story. Get real dude...they're trying to sell you the sizzle and you are a buyer.
