With Tannehill Likely Out, Who Do You Prefer At QB?

Just when things were looking up. Injuries, Injuries, Injuries.

I know that they are part of the NFL.  But losing our starting QB and now our RB has concussion issues.

Yes, issues. Those nasty headaches tend to reoccur. And each time they take longer to recover from.

What a frecking week! I need a drink.

Maybe two.

So since everything is pointing to Ryan Tannehill going under the knife and losing out on this season, who would you like to see start at QB?

I know who our dear friend Dave Appoloppolloppaloloopie, a long time advocate of Matt Moore over a healthy Ryan Tannehill wants to start at QB.

I like Matt Moore too. And given the chance to take a ton of snaps before the season starts we should be OK.

He knows the system. He knows the WRs. He is accepted in the locker room.

He has replaced RT already. And went 2-0, prior to the NE season ender, to get us into the playoffs.

Short of bringing back Dan Marino or even George Blanda, we don't have too many choices.

Looks like Jay Cutler will remain a TV analyst for the Bears. He wants starters cash to leave the booth. He is familiar with Gase's system. And Gase is familiar with him.

But Jay Cutler is just another Matt Moore. So unless Cutler is willing to play one year for veteran back up cash, why bring him in?

Colin Kaepernick, sans the Castro Tee Shirt, would be intriguing since he can run like the wind and extend plays. He would allow the Zone Read to remain on the play sheet, which I happen to like having that threat in our arsenal.

CK has starting experience. He also has controversy experience. I am sure he would be accepted in the locker room but how about in the community. Bearing that Castro image on his Tee Shirt, what was he thinking about anyway.

There are some other choices to bring in. I am wondering what the consensus is out there in Dolfan land.

Whom would you prefer???

Back to Dave Appoloppolloppaloloopie. Oh, he is for real.

Ask any follower of this blog.

There have been many an argument over who should be our starting QB. Even when things were going well for RT.

DA wouldn't let up. Not an inch.

If it weren't for this being a blog on the internet instead of discussions in a bar, DA's family would've had to order the widest head stone known to mankind.

So those who were against DA all these years have a big decision to make. Do they get behind Matt Moore and hope we are successful?

Hope that not only we do well. But more importantly, hope that if Matt Moore does play well, Dave Appoloppolloppaloloopie shows some class and doesn't rub it in.

Its up to you DA. The ball is in your court.

Gentleman or prick??

Phins Up!!!

I would take Kape over Cutler anyday

avatar

I agree with all your points Mike. Kaepernick would be exciting. But he may have to blow Moore out of the water in only a month to start.

avatar

Dolphins should roll with Moore and Doughty. Those other guys are looking for jobs for a reason...

avatar

A first and second to ..N.E for.....?

avatar

Any way to pry AJ McCarron away from Cincy?

avatar

Colin Kaepernick is kryptonite to the patriots. Kaepernick knows how to defeat the cheaters at will. So you know who I want to sign.

avatar

Cutler would know the playbook. Kap would need a lot of preseason to get ready. If we went with Kap, Armando would lose his mind.

avatar

I wanted Nathan Peterman the whole way. Dolphins were pretty much in line with the draft board I made this year, but my board had Peterman as a must draft. Trade that third round pick(slow lumbering Asiata) down and we could have had a future franchise QB. Bill's just traded Cardale Jones and Peterman is the #2 QB. He will be their future. I am a firm believer in the late Ron Wolf's strategy of picking a QB almost every year.

Matt Moore is accepted. CK would not be accepted by much of the locker room nor many of the fans. He would not be a leader at all.

avatar

Bring in a third scrub. Moore can do the job, and doughty was getting huge props last camp. We will be fine. We don't need that kap creep.

avatar

Is kase keenum avaiable? That kid can ball. Been on crap teams.

avatar

I like him on the field Dave. Not sure about the baggage.

avatar

Kap is not a fit for our offense. Plus all the baggage. Cutler.

avatar

I am pretty sure Kaepernick is a PERFECT fit for an Adam Gase run offense. However, having said that, the blowback in Miami would probably NOT be worth risk. Kap does have the skills to get us deep into playoffs. My problem with Kap is his accuracy is questionable when he is NOT scrambling.

Now, Cutler would be the safer pick. He would give his all to be with Gase again. He understands what the Phins have and he knows it would be his last chance at a SuperBowl. My biggest problem with Cutler is this, when the going gets tough, after the pockets disappears a few times in a row, he starts to make harried decisions.

Dan Marino!

1.) Matt Moore
2.) Jay Cutler
3.)Anybody but Kappernick

Stick with Matt Moore and go poke around Cleveland for Brock Osweiler. Cleveland would probably cover most of his salary for a 6th rounder, and you have an insurance policy behind Moore, that knows Gase and his system, and needs to prove something so maybe a restructure 1 year prove it year with Gase

After reading some comments about CK not being as good in the pocket as when he ismobile and improvising, then hearing how JC needs a pocket and doesnt improvise well, here is another thought.

In a perfect world, the QB has time to pick a team apart with an outstanding line in front of him. Pouncey is questionable, Larsen is out, James is avg at best, RG is unknown. With this in mind, who has the best chance to get us wins?

Good points MPF

cutler is a dick. we are fucked.

avatar

Mike, we could wind up with CK.
I am sure we will add a veteran arm. But I feel your pain. It is disheartening. Who knows, maybe our defense will carry us.

avatar

Do a smart Patriots move. Sign both Kap, Cutler, and let them including Moore fight it out for starter. When another QB drops to injury choose the remaining QB to trade for a 2nd or 3rd round pick.

avatar

I think we need to just roll with Matt Moore, sign someone to be his backup, and hope that David Apollos has been right all along. Moore has a ton of respect in the locker room, he knows the system, and this time around, he gets plenty of time to prepare. I think he has a good arm and good pocket presence. He could really take advantage of those deep weapons (Still and Parker). He's not as mobile as Tannehill but we may not need that.

Signing CK doesn't make sense to me. He'd have to learn the whole system. Not to mention the whole Fidel Castro T-shirt thing wouldn't go over very well. Cutler at least knows Gase's system. I'd say if they're going to sign anyone to be the starter, sign Cutler. But...I think Moore gives us our best chance to win.

And to be honest, Matt Moore DESERVES this opportunity.

avatar

To Unknown...we don't have the cap space

avatar

It may very well be Cutler.
And Jeremy....Moore does deserve this opportunity

avatar

I just read that Moore has already impressed in practice. Although he did throw a pick-six, I view the error as a positive because it's a learning opportunity. I'd rather Moore fine-tune his game now than during the regular season. I like the risk-taking mind-set. With our ridiculous schedule (seriously, whose mother did the entire Dolphins squad bang to deserve this schedule?), we are going to have to be fearless and take risks to win but sometimes it's going to backfire. We as fans need to just prepare ourselves for that right now. Being conservative is going to get us to 8-8 or worse.

On the bright side, it was Xavien Howard who got the pick-six. A good sign for our DB group...

avatar

And Cutler it is... $10m for one year....

avatar

Very funny above Jeremy.

I just hate to have Tannehill miss out on playoff experience last year and now it looks like he will be out another year.

We have a good team. The schedule is tough but I think we can be up to the challenge.

I am not sure what shape Cutler is in and how long it will take him to even begin to compete with Moore.

Gase likes Cutler a lot so he has that in his favor. No matter who starts, I just hope hge plays well because the last thing this team needs is a QB controversy.

avatar

When I read about the question marks to the offensive line like I do every year.. That's what scares me the most. When pouncey got hurt last year the running game went downhill.

avatar

I know Phil. We still have some holes to fill. The depth on our roster is so much better than last year except on the OL. We are already leaning on our 2nd string LG with Larsen out. Pouncey has to come back and play the whole season.
